Asbestos - Leave It, Remove It or Repair It?

Many of us, often unknowingly, are living with someone or asbestos in our homes, schools, workplaces and even hospitals, so it makes sense to try to understand the real dangers posed by different types of asbestos. And if you make a decision about what to do with asbestos in the premises, whether residential or industrial, you can make a more informed choice.

There are two main types of asbestos - friable and non-friable. Friable asbestos is the type that can be crumbled into pieces with minimal pressure and, therefore, releases particles in the air can be inhaled. This is a particularly dangerous type that can cause respiratory and lung diseases such as mesothelioma and asbestosis.

The non-friable asbestos on the other hand will only release fibers into the air, if it broke with the tools or damaged in some way. That is why to give advice to anyone with a water tank asbestos in your home (at least in Britain) to leave the tank in place and install a new mailbox for the breaking of old asbestos cement tank to remove it from the attic is a greater risk than leaving in -situ. For industrial roof is good advice available for the security and costs related to replacing the entire roof or out of the existing asbestos roof in place, a coating is one of the commercially available products that are available.

Different countries have different regulations on asbestos removal or repair of roofing and other asbestos-containing materials (ACMS). But what they have in common is the need to wear protective respiratory equipment and protective clothing such as overalls, gloves and shoes, and for those who work with ACMS properly trained.

So while the thought of asbestos in your home or workplace can be worrisome, if the non-friable type and is not damaged or altered in any way, then the danger is minimal.

If, on the other hand, industrial roofing, which has become damaged or worn well with time, perhaps there will be no choice but to replace it entirely using a trained and approved a contract that will follow the relevant regulations.

Of course, another option for roofs with little damage or wear and tear is to repair it - there are many ethical and reputable companies who can offer advice on whether the asbestos roof repair is a viable option for industrial or commercial premises. Depending on the condition of your roof there are a number of different repair options, such as over-the facade with a metal roof, using a coating, such as Fibroseal to encapsulate asbestos fibers or by using a long tape to repair minor leaks. Thus, industrial roof repair should not be difficult or expensive job.
